For all initial queries about applying for a place at Hurst Green in any year group, please contact the School Office using the contact details on the website. The arrangements for the admission of Reception children to this school are made by the County Council. A detailed description of the arrangements is contained in the booklet ‘Applying for a School’. A copy can be obtained from: The School Admissions Section, Education Department, P.O. Box 4, County Hall, St. Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1SG (Tel: 01273 481000) or viewed online at: www.eastsussex.gov.uk/admissions.
All other admissions are dealt with directly by the school. If you have a child in Years 1-6 and are interested in joining our school, please make contact with the school office to discuss this further.
However, parents and carers may find it helpful to know that, if there are insufficient places available to meet the demand, places will be allocated to children in accordance with the following list of priorities:
Priority 1: Looked after children. ‘Looked after children’ refers to children in the care of a local authority.
Priority 2: Children with an exceptional medical or social need for whom attendance at any other school would be inappropriate. Parents and carers must submit supporting evidence, such as a letter from a doctor or social worker, which clearly demonstrates that the needs of the child can only be met by attending a particular school. Officers of the Children’s Services Authority will decide whether or not the evidence provided is sufficient to allocate a place under this admission priority. This may include seeking our own professional advice. The evidence must conclusively show that no other school than the preferred school can meet the child’s needs.
Priority 3: Children who will have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission. Children are ‘siblings’ if they are full, half, adoptive or foster brother or sister living in the same household. ∙
Priority 4: Children living within a pre-defined community area. Each home address in the county falls within a community area, although living in a community area does not guarantee a place.
Priority 5: Children living outside the pre-defined community area. This relates to children who do not meet criteria 1 to 5.
Nursery: If you are interested in joining our nursery, please call 01580 860375 and select option 2 to speak with the Nursery Manager.
