Class Organisation and Teaching Methods
Due to the size of the school, Hurst Green Church of England Primary School is arranged in mixed-age classes. There are currently 134 children on-roll, and they are organised into five classes as follows:
Little Acorns (Nursery)
Silver Birch Class (Year 1 and Year 2)
Maple Class (Year 4 and Year 5)
All children are given work appropriate to their age and level of ability, and our teachers use a variety of teaching methods, grounded in educational theory and research. The choice of teaching approach is determined by each lesson’s intended learning objectives and the input and activities planned to help each child reach their targets.
The teachers at Hurst Green Church of England Primary School are very knowledgeable and creative and their methods are flexible enough to ensure that children experience a variety of situations and groupings. These include whole-class teaching, ability-group teaching, collaborative group work, and quiet, sustained individual work.
