At Hurst Green Primary School all pupils are taught French. As a school we believe that the learning of an additional language provides valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them to develop communication skills including key skills of speaking and listening and extends their knowledge of how language works.
Learning an additional language promotes an interest and curiosity about the wider world and a sense of European/International identity. Languages raise children’s awareness of being a global citizen.
To enable pupils to engage with the study of French, we use a variety of resources to keep lessons stimulating (songs, games, video clips) and give many opportunities for the pupils to contribute. We use a programme of study called ‘Tout le Monde’, which supports teaching of a foreign language.
