Curriculum map: key skills

At Hurst Green, we follow the National Curriculum which is a blueprint used by schools to ensure that teaching standards are universally consistent. Our aim is to ensure that we have a broad and balanced curriculum designed to meet the needs of our pupils and equip them with key skills to be life-long learners ready for an ever-changing 21st Century.

We deliver this curriculum through an imaginative and adventurous topic-based approach where many of these subjects are taught holistically alongside some discrete lessons. Our curriculum map ensures that statutory requirements are met and we plan and teach progressive key skills in each of the subjects that we deliver.

Our Key Skills Curriculum is mapped and delivered though a two-year rolling cycle (Cycles A & B) so that we can ensure a full and comprehensive curriculum to our mixed age classes.  This year (2020/2021) we are on Cycle B.

Where possible we link our topics to our local area, utilising all the amazing features and sites across East Sussex and Kent.  This also ensures that children have a rich experience of first hand experiences that helps to bring learning to life.
