Religious Education

At Hurst Green Primary School RE is a core subject. It is taught in regular weekly lessons where expectations for teaching and learning are high. The teachers have good subject knowledge and make creative and effective use of resources to deliver engaging and stimulating lessons. Opportunities are sought to include RE teaching in cross curricular Learning Journeys.

Hurst Green Primary School is an inclusive school. Whilst celebrating our distinctively Christian character, and the global nature of the Christian Faith, teachers plan specific units of study devoted to teaching about other major world faiths. Pupils gain knowledge and understanding of these world faiths and develop an insight into the beliefs, culture, lives and spirituality of others. Children are encouraged to be reflective, and that it can be learned and expressed in many varied and creative ways. Through RE teaching and learning in our Church school we aim for pupils to be well informed, to understand the differences and similarities of the major world faiths and, through this understanding, be equipped to show understanding within our multi-faith country. This aim is at the centre of the mission statement for Hurst Green Primary School; Living, loving and learning with God.

The Faiths taught are Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism.
